Ernst FröhlichKempten 1810 – Munich 1882Three sheets of the 18sheet set “(Hunt Reminiscences)” lithographed in chalk by Victor-Jean Vincent Adam (Paris 1801 – Viroflay 1866), here though in the splendidly watercoloured copies of the baronial collection JB with its crown-monogram stamp in the lower margin. – Mounted on framed light cardboard with reg.-nos. in ink by hand. Schwerdt as the supposedly most comprehensive hunting collection missed the set entirely, Schoeller had it in b/w only (no. 426, see below). How much more charming and desirable thus coloured qualities like the ones here !
Chamois. Four of them resting above of the hunter lying in wait. In the air several birds. Inscribed: (Drawn by) E. Froehlich. / Lyth. (by) V. Adam. / (Printed by) Lemercier, Benard et Co. / Bey Artaria et Fontaine in Mannheim / Chez Rittner et Goupil à Paris, otherwise in German-French as above. 27.7 x 31.6 cm. – Minor touch of foxing spots in the wide white margin.
(Partridge Shooting.) / Chasse aux Perdrix. Three hunters, one shooting. Fine the large-figured group with the pointer before the partridges. Inscribed: (Drawn by) Froehlich. / Lyth. (by) Victor Adam. / (Printed by) Lemercier, Benard et Co. / Bey Artaria et Fontaine in Mannheim / chez Rittner et Goupil à Paris, otherwise in German-French as above. 28.1 x 31.7 cm. – The wide white margin with only little disturbing foxing spots.
(Vixen with its Whelps.) / Renarde avec ses Renardeaux. Before the earth under a mighty tree-trunk taking apart a duck for the 3-brush junior set. Near by several bones of former meals. Inscribed: (Drawn by) E. Froehlich. / Lyth. (by) V. Adam. / (Printed by) Lemercier, Benard & Co. / Bey Artaria et Fontaine in Mannheim / Chez Rittner et Goupil à Paris, otherwise in German-French as above. 28.2 x 31.6 cm. – Especially painterly .
(The Crow Shed.) / Chasse aux Oiseaux de Proie. Eagle owl sitting on the mast, above of it hater loosing feathers by the shot. Further coming nearer. Inscribed: (Drawn by) Froehlich. / Lyth. (by) V. Adam. / (Printed by) Lemercier, Benard & Co. / Bey Artaria & Fontaine in Mannheim / Chez Rittner & Goupil à Paris, otherwise in German-French as above. 28 x 31.6 cm. – The charming sujet with instructively drawn guide of the line. – Black & white copy on ordinary buffer paper, not from the collection JB, not mounted. – The general fine foxspottedness barely impairing only. – In the extremely wide white margin waterstain lower right and backed minimal tear.
