David Teniers II, The Armourer

Teniers d. J., David (Antwerp 1610 – Brussels 1690). Le forgeron militaire. The armourer in his workshop at the anvil working a small detail for the upper part of an armour with already helmet + gauntlet lying before him at the side. In the background three journeymen working at the forge, the middle of them with a helmet in his left. Engraving by Francesco del Pedro (Udine 1740 – Venice 1806) at Nicolà Cavalli (Longarone 1730 – Venice  1822).Inscribed: Teniers Pinx. / Franus. Pedro Scul. appud. Nic. Cavalli Venetiis. 27 x 19.4 cm.

With a three-lined stanza, Juvenal, Sat. 15. – On widemargined buff laid paper not cut on three sides with a larger, but weak water-streak below/at the side right far away from the subject.
