Famous fundamental work
for dyeing of wool and woollens on the basis of Hellot’s theory of 1740, which was the first (Darmstädter).
“ He assumed a purely physical explanation that the dye entered the pores of the wool (which must first be dilated), and the pores are then closed by its astringent action … (It’s) a classical key book on the subject ”

For the first time Hellot submitted his theory in two memorials to the Paris Academy, the member of which he was. As assessor in the Commercial Board he supervised the dye-houses. About his other chemical and technological works see the literature mentioned above.
Finely printed very rare item in a fresh copy with the engraved ex-libris (coat-of-arms) of Plummer of Middlestead and the inventory numbers of Sunderland Hall. – Four leaves with a small defect in the margin and one leaf torn, but all repaired. – Binding slightly rubbed, joint repaired.
