Etching by Simon François Ravenet I (Paris 1706 or 1721 – London 1774). Ca. 1737. Inscribed: A / 5 / Boucher inv. / Ravenet Sculp. / AParis, chez Huquier. Avec privilége du Roi , otherwise as before. 28.3 x 19.3 cm.

François Boucher, Coal Seller

Charming  sheet  after Boucher, qualified by Fürstenberg as “Brilliant as painter, as draughtsman, and as etcher”, and continuing

“ His drawings and his etchings have a somewhat harsher beauty than his paintings and bring him humanly perhaps next to us. ”

The first set of his “Types de la rue et des cris de Paris” as relevant here published by him as “a type of topical genre presentations on which he gladly fell back also later still frequently” (Goffroy in Thieme-Becker).

„ das Gutwort des Jahres – sammlungszugewandte Muße – wunderbar, hab einigen LBA/Goethefreunden dieses Gutwort genannt. Sie haben in einer verwahrlosten Zeit ein ‚linguistisches Gespür’! “
