Charming sheet of the “famous engraver” , whose “engravings first are delicately etched, but thereupon mostly executed finely and often imperceptibly with the graver”, after Boucher, qualified by Fürstenberg as “Brilliant as painter, as draughtsman, and as etcher”, and continuing
“ His drawings and his etchings have a somewhat harsher beauty than his paintings and bring him humanly perhaps next to us. ”
The first set of his “Types de la rue et des cris de Paris” as relevant here published by him as “a type of topical genre presentations on which he gladly fell back also later still frequently” (Goffroy in Thieme-Becker).
