Johann Elias Ridinger (Ulm 1698 – Augsburg 1767). (White) Greenlandic Sea=Bears (sic!, recte polar bears). Two of them, of which the one in front, with the nose on the ground, tracks to the left to a cave, while the rear one roars towards the polar fox lurking right above the cave. Mezzotint by Johann Elias Haid (1739 Augsburg 1809) printed in brown. Inscribed: Joh. Elias Ridinger pinxt. / Joh. Elias Haid fecit., otherwise in German as above. 11 × 13⅛ in (28 × 33.2 cm).
Th.-Stillfried (1876) & Schwarz (1910) 1386. – Within Ridinger’s sets the White Greenlandic Bear figures as sheet 3 of the set of bears, Th. 527, and, reduced in size & foxy-red, within the Colored Animal Kingdom as Zeydelbär, Th. 1081, and as White Spitsbergen Greenlandic Bear per 1082 resp.
