Johann Elias Ridinger (Ulm 1698 – Augsburg 1767). (The Elk or Moose obtains its Height in its Sixth Year only, usually they have two, but also only one calf.) A capital bull in imperial position on a rocky plateau. Placed back two deer. Etching + engraving. (1736.) Inscribed: Cum Priv. Sac. Cæs. Majest. / I. El. Ridinger inv. pinx. sculps. et excud. Aug. Thienemann + Schwarz 231. – Sheet 36 (in the rich Silesian Ridinger collection at Boerner XXXIX [1885], 1799 only as a ruin and in 1894 only as new impression within item 24 of the first-class collection Reich auf Biehla) of the “Study of the Wild Animals along with the Excellent Poetry of the Highly Famous Mr. Barthold Heinrich Brockes” as rich subtext in German. – Splendid impression on especially heavy wide-margined laid paper watermarked with crown coat-of-arms with tag. – Smoothed center-fold. Some quite weak minimal brown spots almost only in the outer subtext.
